The second workshop in the V3 Series will be led by Kim Bui of NowThisNews. She will talk about how their newsroom uses Twitter to share breaking news updates as well as how journalists can verify sources found on social media.
 
P. Kim Bui is the editor-at-large for NowThis News, focusing on original, social reporting and breaking news. Prior to NowThis, she was deputy managing editor for reported.ly, a digital media startup specializing in social journalism. Her career has focused on leading breaking news initiatives and working on new storytelling forms for digital, print and broadcast companies catering to local, national and global audiences. She’s run training and taught classes on digital and social journalism at universities, conferences and gatherings worldwide. She’s also co-founder of the now retired #wjchat, one of the longest running weekly Twitter chats for journalists.

The first workshop in the V3 Series will be led by Annie Yu and Steve Saldivar of the LA Times, discussing the Times’ approach to Instastories and its strategy in building an Instagram following.

 

Annie Yu

Annie Z. Yu is a producer for the audience engagement team. Before joining the Los Angeles Times, she managed social media as an engagement fellow at ProPublica in New York City. Prior to that, she reported for the Arizona Republic, the Orange County Register and several other news organizations in Washington, D.C. She hails from the Bay Area and graduated from Azusa Pacific University, where she served as an award-winning editor-in-chief of the newspaper.

 

 

 

 Steve Saldivar

Steve Saldivar is interested in arts, culture and ideas. He served as the Getty’s first social media coordinator. Previously he was a producer for Frontline/WORLD. Saldivar received his B.A. in English from UC Berkeley. He thought he was going to live in Walden Pond like his favorite author. Instead, he stayed and graduated from the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, where he fell in love with all the ways to tell a story. Originally from East Los Angeles, he can still be seen walking down Whittier Boulevard eating shrimp burritos from Tacos Baja.
