The Student Media department of the Memorial Union, at Oregon State University-Corvallis, is currently recruiting a full time (1.0 FTE), twelve-month, fixed term, Director position. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. A generous benefits package is included.

The director will facilitate an organizational atmosphere that is ethical, collaborative, developmental, and innovative. The director will help staff to design and develop new facilities, use entrepreneurial strategies to obtain resources for a state-of-the-art media program, while supporting the growth and development of students in these programs to accomplish organizational, professional and personal goals through their involvement in OSU Student Media. This position is the senior administrator in Student Media and will usher in a new era for Student Media at Oregon State University.

The director will be responsible for overall institutional and professional practice, providing media ethics guidance and ensuring professional standards and practices within a student media operated auxiliary enterprise. The position provides leadership directly and indirectly to a workforce of eight full-time employees and over 300 students, advances OSU’s reputation for excellence in media in all forms, and develops the Student Media program guided by intercultural understanding and commitment to upholding and implementing the values of the Student Affairs Division and Memorial Union Organization.

The director will be a collaborative leader, leading diverse groups of stakeholders to articulate a vision of a dynamic and flexible platform for student media programs. The implementation of those programs will position student media staff as a major force in informing, and connecting all sectors of the OSU community while collaborating with academic media programs to prepare students for careers.

Under the leadership of the director the department provides outreach to organizations, schools and businesses in order to create and maintain relationships that foster educational and employment opportunities for OSU students and supports the recruitment of students likely to succeed at OSU.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, new media, broadcast communications, college student services, or related field AND successful and progressively responsible experience in publishing and/or broadcast journalism, and/or digital media at a supervisory or instructional level; Demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity; Demonstrated knowledge and experience in digital media.

Preferred qualifications include: Prior experience in multiple media formats (publishing, broadcast, web, digital, etc.) at a supervisory or instructional level; Master’s degree; Prior experience in a higher education setting with print, broadcast journalism, or digital media duties.
