The Los Angeles chapter of the Asian American Journalists Association is seeking proposals for in-depth reporting projects that explore health equity issues that affect the Asian American community.

This fellowship is open to professional journalists, but priority will be given to the following applicants:

  • AAJA-LA chapter members
  • CCNMA: Latino Journalists of California, NABJLA and NAHJLA chapter members
  • Freelance/Independent journalists
  • Journalists with two years of professional experience
  • Journalists who attend AAJA-LA health equity programming events
  • Journalists with a track record of producing larger scale projects

Fellows will receive:

    • $2,500 reporting grant
    • Three months of mentorship
    • Assistance in placing the story in a publication*

*Please note that this does not guarantee placement in a publication.

Application requirements:

    • Description of project proposal, including a community engagement component (up to 750 words)
    • What story/stories will you deliver at the end of this program?
    • Bio (no more than 100 words) and headshot
    • A response to the following prompt: Why are you the best person to tell this story? (up to 500 words)
    • Budget proposal
    • Resumé
    • Reference letter
    • Links to three work samples

Final fellowship gathering: Fellows will be required to share the outcome of their reporting projects during a final fellowship gathering in October 2023.
