The Asian American Journalists Association-Los Angeles chapter and ACES: The Society for Editing are welcoming applications for the Henry Fuhrmann Mentor Award, which honors a working journalist who is a mentor to others in journalism. The deadline for nominations is Aug. 15, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific time.

Former Los Angeles editor Henry Fuhrmann, a longtime leader and mentor in both ACES and AAJA-Los Angeles, gave generously of his time and expertise to help shape the careers of numerous journalists, whether they were just starting out or further along.

One deserving mentor will be honored each year with a certificate and $1,000 prize.

Criteria:

  • Nominees may be anyone in journalism.
  • Membership in ACES or AAJA is not necessary.
  • You may nominate yourself.

To apply: 

Applications can be submitted here. Submit the following as documents in the Google form:

  • Resume for nominee 
  • Brief description (250-500 words) of nominee’s approach to mentoring
  • Two letters from mentees, including contact information

Tax-deductible donations can be made to the ACES Education Fund or AAJA-LA. Donors should add a note specifying the donation is intended for the Fuhrmann Mentor Award.
