Internship Opportunities
Journalism — Multimedia — Web Design
AsiaMedia and Asia Pacific Arts, publications of the UCLA Asia
Institute, offer numerous internship opportunities for students in the
Los Angeles area. AsiaMedia delivers news about all aspects of the
media, including its role in regional and national economics,
societies, and political debate. Asia Pacific Arts covers the dynamic
worlds of Asian and Asian American arts and entertainment. Former
AsiaMedia and Asia Pacific Arts interns have gone on to work for CNN,
NPR, the Washington Post, ContentNext Media, the Hindu, Shanghai’s
Dragon TV, Dreamworks, the World Bank, Fox, public relations firms in
Hollywood and consulting firms in Asia. Many others have gone on to
pursue postgraduate study at the University of Chicago, Northwestern,
UC Berkeley, and UCLA.

* Learn to evaluate, analyze, and synthesize information quickly
* Write news stories, reviews, and profiles
* Conduct interviews
* Research media issues
Applicants should have strong writing skills and a good eye for news.
Duration of internships are negotiable, with a three-month minimum. We
ask for ten to fifteen hours of work per week and accept applications

Journalism – Asia Pacific Arts
* Pitch and write timely and important stories, reviews, interviews,
and profiles
* Gain experience working with publicists and artists
* Analyze and interpret issues regarding ethnicity and national
identity in the international entertainment scene
Applicants should have basic writing and interviewing skills, and an
interest in Asian and/or Asian American arts and entertainment.

* Assist with various stages of multimedia/video production
* Gain experience editing, producing, shooting, and setting-up video interviews
Applicants should have some basic computer skills. Duration of
internships are negotiable, with a three-month minimum. We ask for ten
to fifteen hours of work per week and accept applications year-round.

Web Design
* Design and maintain sites
* Work with an editorial team to see ideas through, from start to finish
* Create resource pages and special layouts for news stories,
entertainment features
Applicants should be proficient in XHTML, CSS, PHP, and ASP. Duration
of internship is negotiable, with a three-month minimum. We ask for
five to ten hours of work per week and accept applications year-round.
