The Asian American Journalists Association – Los Angeles is pleased to announce the Reporting Relief Fund for journalists whose jobs have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The fund will provide financial awards to support original reporting projects that focus on underrepresented communities.
AAJA-LA will award three grants of $2,000 each and four grants of $1,000 each. The $2,000 grant projects should be more substantial than the shorter projects (i.e. a multimedia project or a longer, in-depth piece).
Only freelancers and full-time journalists who have experienced job loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic are eligible to apply. All applicants must be members of AAJA-LA.
Applications must include:
— A description of your proposed project, why you think it’s important and which grant you are applying for (500 words max)
— A description of your financial need and how the pandemic has affected your work (200 words max)
— A resume
— Two to three samples of completed journalistic work
The grants will be distributed in two installments – half upon award and the remainder when the project is completed.
Entries will be judged by veteran journalists in Southern California and representatives from the board of AAJA-LA, with a focus on originality of topic combined with personal financial need.
The application deadline is June 30th.
