The end of 2018, a year that brought journalists a lot of ups and downs: Layoffs at California newspapers, pay disparity in the newsroom was still bad, POLITICO came to California in a big way, newsroom diversity still needed improvement, and CJR started a conversation about whether to go into news at all. Phew!

Here’s to hoping that 2019 will bring us at least some pay raises, right?
