Student Fellowship: Learn, report about the Vietnamese community

DIVERSITY IN MEDIA TRAINING FELLOWSHIP:

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: In an effort to increase ethnic and cultural understanding
and to encourage Asian American and Pacific Islander community news coverage,
AAJA-LA will offer a fellowship to a gifted college student to work for both an
ethnic media outlet and a regional news publication under the Diversity in Media
Training Fellowship.

The selected broadcast student will spend 10 weeks working at the Nguoi Viet,
the largest and oldest Vietnamese newspaper in the United States. After 10
weeks the selected candidate will spend the remainder of their internship with
the Orange County Register.

With the Orange County Register the student will be asked to assist in the
production of at least two pieces on the Vietnamese community they had
previously reported on.

ELIGIBILITY:
Applicant must be a current AAJA member
College and graduate students only
OC-based residents only

PROGRAM POINTS:
The internship will last for five months.
AAJA-LA will offer a stipend
The internship will begin at the Nguoi Viet the first week of October. The
selected candidate will serve the second half of their internship at the OC
Register beginning January.

APPLICATION PROCESS:
Submit your five strongest clips/ videos, and your resume. Also include story
ideas that can range from news features, profiles, business news, sports,
education, etc.
